Over The Farm Gate: ‘What’s the Beef’ returns with practical tools to help maximise farm profits

On-farm field days provide substantial gains for beef farmers

In 2021, along with several like-minded industry partners, PGG Wrightson initiated ‘What’s the Beef,’ seeking to add significant value to the bottom line for commercial beef farmers.

This year, after a Covid-enforced break, the farmer-focused roadshow is back, beginning in Northland on 7 March. A nationwide series of on-farm field days will cover the country, aiming to provide practical tools to help farmers maximise profits. Leading experts will explain how to apply innovative, best practice principles that are proven to create substantial value for a beef business, adding hundreds of thousands of dollars to a commercial beef farmer’s bottom line. Hosted on the properties of some of New Zealand’s most successful farmers ‘What’s the Beef’ will run across five locations, offering advice and practical solutions tailored to the commercial beef farmer.

Presentations from high profile geneticists, farm consultants, chefs and processors, will cover topics including:

  • How you use genetics to grow profit;
  • Nutrition and farm management for meat quality;
  • What processors are looking for to serve the overseas market and how farmers can accommodate that; and
  • Why the restaurant trade is looking for quality and consistency from red meat, and how to this work in the paddock.

Other ‘What’s the Beef’ partners are AngusPure, Beef and Lamb NZ, bidr®, Zoetis, Allflex and PGG Wrightson Seeds.
