Over The Farm Gate: GO-STOCK frees capital for Otago trading operation

Acquisition of bulls and lambs made easy at Waihemo Downs, Dunback

Go-Stock is PGG Wrightson’s easy solution for on-farm cashflow.

For farmers who have other uses for capital, Go-Stock means no need to spend cash up front.

Scott Tomlinson, Waihemo Downs, Dunback, East Otago uses Go-Stock to assist his trading operation, predominantly lambs and bulls:

“We have been in a big growth phase, with intensive development and increasing stock numbers. Go-Stock is handy for what we are doing. We would recommend it to anyone, particularly in the trading business when trying to increase numbers, or if there are constraints on capital, as we have.

“We use Go-Stock to source two year old bulls to arrive in the autumn. We also use it for lambs, both for winter lambs that we bring in to finish through the spring, also for lambs through the summer, where it helps with the flexibility of sourcing stock.

“It’s a flexible product and easy to use,” he says.

Since 2016 Go-Stock has put 1.65 million lambs and 247,000 cattle onto New Zealand farms.

With Go-Stock, PGG Wrightson buys the stock and retains ownership. Farmers then take, graze and grow the stock. When the stock are ready to take to market, the farmer, with guidance from PGG Wrightson, decides when and where to sell them. PGG Wrightson then pays any resulting positive trading margin to the farmer, less fees and selling costs.

Go-Stock is an option for sheep, cattle, deer and now a newly released dairy offer.
