Angus bulls feature strongly at second annual online semen sale
Northland bull "Reality" tops auction at $340 per straw
PGG Wrightson’s second annual online bull semen sale, featuring some of New Zealand's premium Angus and Hereford genetics, was conducted on bidr on 24 August 2022.
Northland Angus bull Matauri Reality 839 stole the headlines, with 43 of his straws sold. Prices ranged as high as $340 per straw.
In total, 828 Angus straws were sold at the sale, compared to 144 Hereford straws. Some of the country’s premier stud businesses showcased their elite genetics. Buyers throughout New Zealand registered to participate in the sale.
This event is proving to be a simple and immediate way to access beef genetics and has been well received by commercial beef farmers seeking to use artificial insemination to add value and enhance their herds via the convenience and competition of an online auction.
