A gift of warmth: PGG Wrightson Wool and Bloch & Behrens donate NZ wool yarn to Kiwi Family Trust

During winter there's nothing quite as comforting as a hand-knitted woollen garment to keep children snug and warm. The Kiwi Family Trust, an organisation dedicated to providing hand-knitted woollen garments to young children throughout New Zealand, has been tirelessly working to spread warmth and joy for years.

The Kiwi Family Trust is a great example of a community-driven initiative that has been bringing smiles to children's faces across New Zealand. Their mission is simple yet profound: to donate hand-knitted woollen garments to young children in need, ensuring they stay warm during the harsh winter months. Every year, they manage to distribute over 10,000 garments to families in need, and sometimes, the need is even greater, prompting them to produce even more.

PGG Wrightson Wool and their international sales and marketing arm, Bloch & Behrens NZ Ltd, have stepped forward to support the Kiwi Family Trust in their mission donating 100x 100 grams natural undyed 100% NZ wool yarn. This generous contribution will enable the Kiwi Family Trust to create up to fifty hand-knitted jumpers and hats for children in need, contributing to their mission of distributing over 10,000 garments annually.

“The team at PGG Wrightson Wool needs no convincing of the benefits of wool and wool products so it was a no brainer for us to contribute some of our local grown and produced knitting yarn.” said Mark Hunter who is a senior Wool Buyer/Trader with Bloch and Beherns.

The recent events in the North Island have heightened the demand for woollen garments for babies and young children under the age of five. As winter continues, the Kiwi Family Trust has found itself facing an urgent need to supply more garments to meet the growing demands of families seeking warmth for their little ones. To address this challenge, they rely on the invaluable support of their network of volunteer knitters spread across all regions of New Zealand.

Hunter explains “We have been having beanies produced by our Wool Integrity partners Norsewear NZ, located in Central Hawke’s Bay, for a number of years. We know that this natural colour undyed yarn produces a fantastic warm product.”

The recent surge in demand has created a need for more wool to support the growing network of volunteer knitters, which is where the generous donation from PGG Wrightson and Bloch & Behrens plays a vital role.

The partnership between PGG Wrightson, Bloch & Behrens, and the Kiwi Family Trust is a shining example of how businesses can make a tangible difference in their communities.
